I want to maintain a wish list for improvements at the NZCT Eventing training ground. From this list we can prioritise what needs to be done first. Gather feedback from training ground members on what they think is most important. Feedback and assitance from the rider members is critical for this to work, as no one else will do this for us. Thoughts, Offers of help, New Ideas, List of priority or any comments please send to

2) Install Dressage Markers for both 40m and 60m arenas 3) Build a training course for XC 4) Build some smaller jumps than 85cm for bringing on beginners or young horses 5) Run some organised training days for members where we have guest instructors 6) Use our membership status to establish a "buying group" 7) Need a notice board at NZCT training ground with small roof 8) Hacking track through forest 9) Major clean up required along tree line on town side of training ground 12) Membership Stickers for Floats/Trucks 13) Hose and Horse wash down bay in the training area 1) A large multi purpose grass arena that can be used for the following -Warm up area for twilight series. -Setting up a grass show jumping course higher then 85cm for twilight series. -Setting grass Dressage arenas that could be booked for member’s lessons. -General flat work when other Dressage arenas are in use. Progress -Area identified - Done -Area levelled and grass seed sown - Done. -Irrigation planned and approved - Done -Irrigation pipes and equipment purchased and placed on site - Done -Installation of irrigation underground - Pipes have been buried hydrants to be installed. -Please keep off this area until the grass has had a chance to establish.
2) Install Dressage Markers for both 40m and 60m arenas Requirements -Large enough they can be seen over railings -Strong enough they wont blow down -Moveable so that the arenas can be resized or moved for harrowing and levelling -Flexible so they won't hurt a horse if the hit them Progress -Installed - click here to see pictures. http://tinyurl.com/otywph
3) Build a training course for XC Ideas -Instead of just having random jumps to train with we should build a course and change it every couple of months. -Should be built with three heights 85,95,105 all on same track with jumps adjacent to each other so that when riding the course a rider can choose heights as they go. -Riders could start with 85 then as you get into the course start jumping larger easier ones to gain confidence. (As per twilight series). -Number of efforts should be about 15. -Jumps should include -Water -Corners -Banks -Drops -Ditches -Palisades -Brushes -Skinny -Others??? -Should be measured and have colour time markers every 30 seconds along track so that optimum paces can be established per class. -Use markers as per dressage arena with times on them. Easily moved as course changed Progress -Need to get 85cm to 105cm mobiles back from Canterbury Park -This is expensive but as could be done cheaply by arranging members to bring a trailer and bringing them back one at a time from Canterbury Park -We could arrange a tractor with forks on at each end. We would need 4 or 5 trailers with, say two trips each and we could be done in a couple of hours. -Publish the course online as we do with Twilight course.
4) Build some smaller jumps than 85cm for bringing on beginners or young horses Ideas - What size do we need and how many? - As they are small they could be done inexpensively by positioning a few logs, Pipes, Tyres etc. Ideas please? - Have added - 1 log - Added two more small mobiles -With the NEW addition of all the jumps at Roydvale we can now cater from 60cm to 102cm. -Still require a greater array of small mobiles 85cm and less.
5) Run some organised training days for members where we have guest instructors. Ideas -Funding for this could be -Split between users on the day -Ask for financial help from Coaches (giving time), ESNZ or Fund set up for this purpose (Community trusts and or sponsors)
6) Use our membership status to establish a "buying group" Ideas -Discounts negotiated with suppliers on proof of membership -Bulk purchase of food supplies - eg email out who needs Lucerne chaff, gather Qty and bulk purchase. -Please Login and refer to "Buyers Group Offer" Under "Members Menu". -We welcome any special offers and will advertise them here for members. - Done - Need more offers.
7) Need a notice board at NZCT training ground with small roof Ideas -Training ground Rules -Notices -XC course path, distances and times -SJ course details -List of members (would be able to check others at ground are members) -Small white board for queuing arena times if they got busy -List of jobs needing done with tools left in shed so that if you wanted to stay for 1/2 an hour after your ride you could help. Progress I have just learned (10th of may 2009) we have a commitment from the NEC head sponsor Sheds NZ to build us a Notice Board complete with roof. This is great news and a big thank you to Sheds NZ. - Done
8) Hacking track through forest Ideas -There is a rather large area that is forested on the town side of the training ground that we could put a one-way path through for hacking. Riders can use as is with caution. -If marked out with dazzle then we could get PD workers to clear. -Need small bulldozer to cut roots on paths, Anyone have access to one? -Ecan are putting in a Bridleway of about 25km out behind us with a float park at the end of Haul Road. -We need to put in a written submission so we and Roydvale can get direct access to it. Discussions taking place.
9) Major clean up required along tree line on town side of training ground Ideas -We need this cleaned up for float parking 3/4 Done -Trim trees to allow floats/trucks to park closer to trees. 3/4 Done -There are jumps that could be resurrected and used -Timber needs sorting. Junk disposed, good timber nails removed and stacked for reuse Done -Wire and steel removed or/and recycled. Done -This area is needed for float parking whilst using the grounds and we don’t need junk cluttering it up - Done -Oil bins need moving. -Done thanks to Stan.
10) Working bees Ideas -Regular working bees should be published say 1 per month for 2hrs to clean up backlog? -Then say 1 per 6 months? -Maybe just one big clean up for two days over Queens birthday weekend? Done -Expectations that each member attend at least 1 per year be established? -Still need more to clean up new area bhind trees down Roydvale far corner. 3/4 Done -Need to Spray Gorse.
11) Loyalty for membership Ideas - Renewal of membership should include a $20 discount for current rider members if renewed and payed by 1st of July 2009. Approved 2nd June at AGM 2009 -$120 for new membership, $100 for existing members if renewed and payed by the 1st of July 2009. Approved 2nd June at AGM 2009 -$5 discount on Twilight event entries $25 for members $30 for non-members. That’s an $40 saving if you do the whole series. -Remember all proceeds from Twilight go into the up keep of the Training Grounds and XC course. -You get 100% of your membership and Twilight fees put back directly into the Training ground and XC course.
12) Membership Stickers for Floats/Trucks Ideas -A warrant of fitness size membership sticker for all Rider Members so you can put them on your floats -This will Identify your float at the training ground. -Identify you to other rider members when you are at events. An invitation to come and say hello. -Will advertise Eventing Canterbury Membership to others. How did you get that? Whats that about? How do I become a member? -Intend to have these for 09/10 year. Approved 2nd June at AGM 2009
- Size 50mm x 60mm two Colour. 250 x Member Stickers and 120 x Rider Member Stickers are required. - Done
13) Hose and Horse wash down bay in the training area. I will look at what is required for a proper hose down area, Position, Pricing etc and go from there. 22/06/09 It is only a short walk to the NEC hose down bay so please use that. Remember to walk your horses within the NEC grounds (as apposed to the training ground area) There is a tap on the tree line between the yards and the NEC. It is there to fill buckets of water. As its on the grass if we put a hose on it and use it to wash down horses we will end up with a huge mud bath. The Committee has decided at this point to stick with the existing washdown area for the time being. Eventing Canterbury have contributed $1000 towards putting two new wash down bays next to the existing one for all to use.
