EVENTING CANTERBURY
ONE DAY HORSE TRIAL
MCLEANS ISLAND – OCTOBER 10

Ashburton’s Larissa Srhoy has convincingly won Eventing Canterbury’s Open Intermediate class held at the Sheds NZ National Equestrian Centre at McLeans last weekend.
Riding Starburst, Srhoy got off to a flying start heading into the jumping phases with a handsome five point lead. Despite cross country time faults and one rail down in the show jumping, Srhoy had done enough, finishing with a rail in hand over West Melton’s
Emily Butcher on Transcend, who moved up from fifth after dressage to finish second. Brent Jury on SE Big finished third with Amberley’s Annabel Wigley fourth on Brogan.

Srhoy’s win went some way making amends for a disappointing Elimination at Canterbury Park last month in the advanced after missing a fence on the cross country.

Butcher dominated the Open Novice finishing first, second and fourth with her three rides.

Butcher had a stranglehold on the class from the outset leading after the dressage phase with her experienced 3* ride Let’s Be Frank, making a welcome return to the sport after a year out with injury, with Benjamin James sitting second and My Shout back in third. A faster round across country saw Benjamin James move up to take the lead with Let’s Be Frank having to settle for second.

Nelson’s James Avery moved to take third, with Butcher fourth on her third ride, My Shout.

Veronica Waddy on Milburn Maringo came through to win the hotly contested Warren’s Equine Training class with Ashburton’s Monica Archibald on Spectacular Trio the best of the large Pacific Vet Pre-Training Class.
