Tree Felling at NEC will begin soon PDF Print E-mail

Dear All

Over the next week or two Ecan will start to fell and remove trees from the NEC at Mcleans Island.
The picture below shows the area to be felled.
Equestrian_Centre_logging

For the purpose of felling and removing trees a double gate has been installed at the bottom left corner of the area to be felled near the Roydvale gate on Mcleans Island Road. This will enable most of the logging traffic created by the contractors to take place away from the centres entrance and off the centres roads.

A 50 metre barrier of established trees will be left along the Mcleans Island Road for 5 to 10 years to enable a new belt of trees to be established to give some protection to the grounds prior to their future removal.

Most all of the area will be replanted but for 2 hectares that will be available for redevelopment.
For the purposes of negotiation we have indicated a logical area for redevelopment.

The area to be kept will require the stumps to be removed and will happen at the end of the tree felling process.
These stumps will be picked and left for 1 month to dry and for debris to fall from them prior to being put through a mechanical muncher on site.

Please be aware that the tree felling is taking place soon and to obey any signs placed by the Tree Felling company or the NEC.
Constant updates, warnings and photos will be posted on Eventing Canterbury & SINEC Web Sites.

Yours sincerely

ACCESS TO ROYDVALE GROUNDS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO EVENTING CANTERBURY TRAINING GROUND MEMBERS PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kevin Bowden
Wednesday, 02 May 2012 03:04

Eventing Canterbury has received notification that Roydvale Pony Club wishes to end the agreement between themselves and Eventing Canterbury with regard to the usage of Roydvale Grounds.

The reasons given for this move are the increasing membership numbers being experienced by Roydvale and also its amalgamation with Riccarton Fendalton P C who have lost the use of their grounds.

While this is unfortunate for the riding members of Eventing Canterbury it has meant that at its last meeting the Eventing Canterbury committee have decided that it is time that a review of the training ground be undertaken to look at a number of aspects.

In particular they will be looking at the area of ground currently committed to training, the number and type of jumps required to give the best training facilities for all levels including those who do not compete at all, and how to best ensure a good and complimentary combination of training and competition.

The committee of Eventing Canterbury will be canvassing all members/users of the training ground for input into how they believe the grounds should look in the future.

The committee fully understand the importance of giving our members the best possible training and competition facilities and look forward to your input in this.

Regards

Kevin Bowden

Chairman

June Cresswell RIP PDF Print E-mail

June Cresswell has passed away after a long illness.
She was 84.
She has been a strong supporter of Eventing in Canterbury for many years. She regularly sponsored classes and always enjoyed coming to the Centre and watching the events.
She used to run the Cobden Riding School and showjumped to a high level in her younger days. She was one of the characters in the sport.
The funeral is being held this Friday at the Johns Road Crematorium at 1.30pm, she will then be driven  around the Arena at the  McLeans Island Equestrian Centre in her old landrover, which most people will remember her driving, and then there will be refreshments at the Centre.
Everyone is welcome to pay their respects to June.
