We especially encourage competitors to help out at Events.

There are lots of jobs that need doing, not only on the day but the day before and weeks earlier.

Dressage arenas and Show Jumping courses are both put up the day before the event. This is a great opportunity to help and also a chance to walk the cross-country course.
The cross-country designer has the course planned weeks before the event. Mobile jumps need to be dragged into position, courses need to be flagged and numbered, tracks measured and fences decorated. It is amazing how much the look of a fence can be improved with a touch of greenery...this is your chance to make the course (which you will be jumping) look more inviting.

There are jobs that you could help with on the day that will also help you compete. For example picking up rails in the show jumping.

This can give a break to the parents committee and helpers AND give you a very real in site into what jumps are being refused or which fences the most rails are being dropped at. You can watch how the striding is working between fences as just stepping them out can sometimes not tell the whole story. Sitting at your float will not give you this incite.

When the event has ended the Show Jumps and Dressage arenas need putting away, ropes, flags, decorations and general ground clean-up starts.

The more help you give the regulars the more enjoyable their day and the more likely they will continue to help.

Many hands make light work.
