No, you will get a full briefing on the day from Eventing Canterbury staff or the Event Organisational team. However, some understanding of Eventing will help. If you are not sure about anything on the day, do ask the Organiser, Event Secretary or the person who coordinates the volunteers. For example Fence Judging for the Cross Country. You will be asked to attend a fence judge meeting before the event starts. You will get a pack (which also contains goody's such as a drink and some food) as well as a set of instructions. There will be an instructional talk then a chance to answer any of your questions. Its best to gain experience at the lower levels and build up to some larger fixtures and tougher jumps. Please tell the XC Coordinator your level of experience when you enroll. This will help them place you on Jumps that match your level. For example it is harder to Judge doubles with option's than a single jump. It is aslo easier to Judge the first few jumps as it is unlikely that other horses will be approaching from behind and they are typically smaller or more straight forward as they are designed to ease the riders into the course. And don’t forget, it is not just about fence judging, there are many other ways in which you can be involved with an event. |
