It is very expensive to run an event. To give you some idea of where the money goes I have put below the set of accounts for the last 3 Day Event that was run at Canterbury Park on the 27th to the 29th of April. INCOME Entries $ 9,677.32 Sponsorship $ 5,511.12 Grants $ 2,314.25 Day Membership $ 97.77 Donations $ 0.00 Programs $ 46.58 Camping $ 337.78 Stables/Yards/Paddocks $ 1,244.54 Total Income $19,229.36
Expenses Accommodation/Camping $ 337.78 Advertising $ 662.29 Catering $ 1885.41 Course Building $ 5,676.85 Equipment Hire $ 160.00 Day Membership $ 97.78 Ground Fees $ 471.11 Judges/Helpers $ 939.30 Levies $ 1,613.34 Photocopying/Programme $ 660.60 Prizes $ 1,333.33 Prize Money $ 5,000.00 Ribbons and rosettes $ 417.33 St Johns/Doctor $ 1,203.24 Stables Yards $ 1,288.89 Veterinary $ 2,045.00 Expenses Total $24,392.25 Surplus/Deficit ($5,162.89)
As you can see there are lots of expenses to run such an event and the entry fees cover only 39% of the costs of such an event. Not only does the committee operate for free but over the course of the year they need to raise funding through other methods to ensure that these events can continue. We are also indebted to our sponsors without which these events could not operate at all. (The above accounts were presented at the 2008 AGM and were at that time unaudited.)
