SOUTH   ISLAND   ONE DAY EVENTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sunday, November 6

SI National Equestrian Centre,   McLeans   Island

Cust apprentice farrier James Avery has continued his dynamic run of form this season aboard  Amarillo leading from start to finish to win the South Island One Day Eventing Championships Open Intermediate at the National Equestrian Centre atMcLeans Island today.

Leader after the dressage, Avery was first out on the cross country, storming round the technical Nick Pyke-designed course to come home clear and inside the time, further increasing his lead in the national Massey University Young Rider Series. He also took home the prestigious Dusky Bay Cup for the Open Intermediate champion.

Ohoka’s Katie Rankin on Time To Tango Too produced a strong performance to take second adding just 1.6 time penalties to her dressage score, with current national one day eventing champion Brent Jury on SE Big on the comeback trail finishing third.

The Des Tombe’s Trophy for the Open Novice Champion went to deserved Olivia Robertson on the ultra-consistent pony, Mr Black Magic. Runaway winners of the Nelson/Canterbury Spring Accumulator, Robertson took the win finishing on her dressage score, one of only two competitors to go inside the time allowed in the cross country, ahead of international Annabel Wigley on NRM Brogan, second. A rail proved costly for Davina Waddy on Millburn Maringo, dropping her to third. Robertson’s win puts her in to the lead in the national ESNZ Junior Rider Series.

Disappointingly the only Advanced starter, Wigley won the Ataahua Brigadier Trophy for the Advanced Champion with NRMEnzo and is now North Island bound to tackle both the National One Day Eventing Championships at Richfields and thePuhinui International Three Day Event in Auckland next month.

Wigley was also successful aboard NRM Tonga Warren’s Feeds Training, while the Bomac Training division went to Emma Steel on Hewtson. Sophie Abbott on Johnny Suede and Campbell Robertson on Craighaven Jaylo won the two hotly contested NRM Pre Novice divisions, while the Platinum Performance Pre Training was taken out by Kirsty Ogilvie on ShootThe Breeze finishing on her dressage score. Abbot’s win gave her an easy win in the Nelson/Canterbury Spring Accumulator.
